The Shire of Nant-Y-Derwyddon hosts The Siege of Calais
Fall, 2001
It is 1346 and King Edward has laid siege to Calais, and has even built a small town to garrison his army in his terrible determination to take the town whatever the costs. But his men-at-arms are restless, as are the French, and a joust or two across the palisades keeps them manageable. There are always the headstrong that would take Calais by force, and they storm the walls from time to time, probing for weakness.
Fighting: This is a chivalric event, and there will be no "winners" in the usual sense. Prizes will be awarded, however, to individuals who best show the chivalric virtues throughout the event.
There will be a torchlight barrier tourney on Friday night, team (five heavies, as many archers as you can field) assault on the castle facade Saturday, and the Company of Saint Olaf will host a Grand Pas d'Armes on Saturday night.
A&S Competition: Open A&S and Populace Choice Competition. Entries received Saturday, 8:30 - 10:00. Encampment, harness, and personal appearance are also A&S entries if documented and entered.
Feast: The feast will be prepared by James de Lyon from Lord Basil's garden of medieval vegetable varieties and medieval strains of pigs and chickens, barring crop failure.
Arrangements: Camping Only. Discreetly dry. Camper space through Kinser Park, 710 Kinser Park Lane, Greeneville, TN 37443. Leashed pets allowed. No ground fires.
